Bridging the Gap (BTG) is a temporary contact program designed to assist the newcomer after they are discharged from a treatment, detox or correctional facility to Alcoholics Anonymous. The purpose is to provide them with a Temporary AA Contact in order to help ease the transition from facility to attending outside AA meetings.

How does it work? Before a person leaves the facility, they, their counselor or a staff member contacts the Bridging the Gap committee via email or  contact form. A BTG Coordinator then locates a Temporary AA Contact in the newcomer’s area and makes arrangements for them to take the newcomer to a few meetings. This reduces the fear of going alone and provides them with an opportunity to learn and ask questions about the fundamentals of AA such as, home groups, sponsorship, meetings, literature, etc.
