CGSC
The Calgary General Service Committee was formed by the Calgary and area groups to coordinate the services outlined in Chapter 3 of the Service Manual, namely, those activities and services required in the areas of Treatment Facilities, Correctional Facilities and Co-operation with the Professional Community. Also, it provides a liaison with the Calgary Intergroup Committee and the international Grapevine Magazine. In addition, the committee organizes the annual Gratitude Roundup and Introductory Service Seminars, and it ensures that group registrations and records are current. The structure of the committee is similar to that of Area 78. During the monthly meeting of this committee, General Service Representatives and District Committee Members will be given the opportunity to volunteer their groups and districts for upcoming service work.

The CGSC Steering Committee consists of the table officers (Chair, Alternate Chair, Treasurer and Secretary), District Committee Members (DCMs) and the sub-committee chairs for the following committees:
Co-operation with the Professional Community — provides information about AA to those who have contact with alcoholics through their profession. This group includes health care professionals, educators, members of the clergy, lawyers, social workers, union leaders, and industrial managers, as well as those working in the field of alcoholism. Information is provided about where we are, what we are, what we can do, and what we cannot do.

Treatment Facilities Committee — carries the Alcoholics Anonymous message of recovery to alcoholics in Calgary treatment facilities. Currently, the committee schedules and conducts an average of seven weekly AA meetings in three treatment facilities.

Bridging the Gap Committee — assists people being released from treatment facilities to come to AA meetings in their area as soon as possible after their release. It provides a temporary contact program to help reduce the fear of attending meetings on their own and introduces them to AA members.

Grapevine Committee — works to attract interest in the Grapevine Magazine, our international AA “meeting in print”; encourages members to submit articles to the magazine and provides information about all other books, pamphlets and literature available from the Grapevine.

Records & Registration Committee — ensures that all General Service Representatives (GSRs) are registered with GSO (General Service Office, New York) and their home group information is correct and up-to-date.

Introductory Service Seminar Committee — organizes an Introductory Service Seminar which is held twice per year. It is focused on the role of the General Service Representative (GSR), the service committee structure in Calgary including Intergroup and District Committee Members (DCMs), and the service structure of Area 78 (Alberta & Northwest Territories) and beyond.

Gratitude Roundup Committee — organizes and hosts an annual roundup, which is held on the closest weekend to June 10 (AA’s birthday). It usually takes place at the Glenmore Inn in Calgary. This convention attracts an average of 1,000 attendees each year.

Set-up & Coffee Committee — does the set-up (including the most important role of all AA service functions… putting on the coffee!) and clean-up required for all CGSC general meetings at St. Marks.
